Calanna 2018 Speaking Competition

Augustus Tan

Augustus is an inquisitive and passionate learner who joined St Joseph’s this year having come from Singapore and the education system there. Augustus developed his speech based on the topic of ‘your five favourite words’, the theme of the 2018 Calanna Speaking Competition.

Augustus challenges an outdated education system and since his time at St Joseph’s has experienced the many benefits of learning in modern and agile spaces. These spaces activate collaborative learning, leveraged greatly by digital and an evolving inquiry approach to learning.

He challenges us all (leaders, teachers, parents) to make changes to the current outdated education system and make it more relevant and meaningful for learners to better prepare them for the world ahead.

  • We acknowledge the First Nations peoples of Australia, the traditional custodians of the land, seas, skies and waterways on which we reside, work, travel and meet. We pay our respect to First Nations elders past, present, and emerging, and support the Uluru Statement From The Heart. We acknowledge that the land, seas, skies and waterways of Australia were, are and always will be, that of the First Nations peoples.
