Learning in Innovative Learning Environments (ILEs)

Since its humble beginnings in 1927, the St Joseph’s community have endeavoured to vision, masterplan and build quality learning facilities. With the help of parish, the work of the staff and the guidance of Catholic Education, the school expanded over the years and classrooms built that suited the needs of the time.

In 2010, with the financial support of the Federal Government Stimulus Package, St Joseph’s expanded its facilities to include a new Library and Performing Arts Hall.

In 2015 a new era dawned on St Joseph’s with the dream and vision of a contemporary and state of the art learning facility which would provide for the current and future needs of the learners. The world needs adaptable, collaborative and social people to creatively problem solve and innovate and learning environments thus need to enable and promote this way of learning and teaching.

In 2018 our dream became a reality and the entire school moved into state of the art Innovative Learning Environments which we call Habitats. Natural habitats are complex and integrated places where natural elements interact to provide the right conditions for survival. Not unlike this, our learning habitats have many carefully considered elements which provide an optimal environment in which to learn. Prep learn in the Beach Habitat, Years One and Two in the Rainforest, Three and Four the Ocean and Five and Six the Universe Habitat. Our undercover courts are the Desert.

Learning is leveraged and enhanced in ILEs with the purposeful use of digital technologies. Learning can occur anywhere at any time!

St Joseph’s is committed to providing as much shaded play and learning spaces in addition to the large double undercover hard courts. Rainforest trees have been planted which will provide future shade and nature based spaces to play and socialise in. With the support of the families in the school and grants, we have begun to increase the covered walkways and shaded eating and learning space.

  • We acknowledge the First Nations peoples of Australia, the traditional custodians of the land, seas, skies and waterways on which we reside, work, travel and meet. We pay our respect to First Nations elders past, present, and emerging, and support the Uluru Statement From The Heart. We acknowledge that the land, seas, skies and waterways of Australia were, are and always will be, that of the First Nations peoples.
